Under the slogan, “Never Give Up Against Any Tsunami,” the Anti-Tsunami Laboratory (ATL) has been developing Anti-Tsunami Systems and has obtained Japanese patents for the following:

  • Anti-Tsunami Doors (ATD)
  • Anti-Tsunami Gates (ATG)
  • Anti-Tsunami Rafts (ATR)
  • Anti-Tsunami Supports (ATS)
  • Multilayer Anti-Tsunami Doors (MATD)
  • Automatic Tsunami Alarm Units

ATL has been conducting scale-model tests of ATD in collaboration with the Disaster Prevention Research Institute of Kyoto University since April 2015 to find and resolve technical issues affecting their practical application. Because a major tsunami could strike tomorrow, we are working to establish the practicality of these systems as soon as possible.

Succeeded in large-scale test of Anti Tsunami Door (ATD)
Anti Tsunami Laboratory (ATL) had tested a large-scale model of 3-stages rolled type ATD successfully using facilities of Oregon State University (US) in March 2022. The water course width of the testing facilities is 3.6m, ATD height is 40 cm x 3 stages (total 1.2m) and ATD width is 3.3 m. Please find the attached movie and sequential photo. This ATD is a rolled-type folding of 3-stage ATD, which will receive tsunami force continuously as forward direction and each stage will extend to the designed height of seawall. It is the same design as the demonstration plant that plans to be applied for Saga Fishing Port in Kuroshio Town (Kochi, Japan). This success is a big step toward practical application of ATD as compact tsunami disaster mitigation.
